WOODFORD ISLAND ROWA-ROUND SUNDAY 2.9.01

This was the first time a pre-season rowa-round Woodford Island was held, and although it was Fathers day, 11 keen rowers from LCRC turned up to test out this new row and had a great day. It took 4 hours, so all were back in time for the BBQ lunch, where all the rowing "tales" were told, its a very scenic row, and a great way to get some pre-regatta training in, next year there will be another held on the second weekend of September 2002 with a 7am. start, so note your diaries now, as it will be bigger and better

Thanks Peter

CENTENARY OF FEDERATION Monday 10.9.01 to Friday 14.9.01

LAST AND FINAL CALL FOR BRO TRAINING
(Which has nothing to do with finding a "bro"ther) time is flying by...

If you are interested in being in charge, great with a flag, yelling is your forte, your directional skills are outstanding, then you should be a Boat Race Official, Greg Thompson will take your names and conduct a training session, date will be notified once all names are in. There is a need for more BRO's at each regatta, and if no-one comes forward, it may mean that regattas will not go ahead.

we are running out of time, so please let Greg know as soon as possible

SEAT MONEY
This is a reminder to all competing rowers, the pay with nominations scheme went fairly well, as it was introduced last season, but everyone has had enough time to get used to this idea, and IF YOU DO NOT PAY WITH YOUR NOMINATIONS FOR ANY REGATTA YOU WILL NOT BE ENTERED IN THE DRAW

Daphne Maughan and Marg Doughan will be checking closely that everyone does the right thing, so everyone can enjoy their day at the Regatta's

LEARNERS
The water is puuurrrrrfect to learn to row during winter, bring a friend along, remember its a low impact sport, with great benefits for fitness and it's fun

First lesson is free for an hour or so, after that is a mere $5.00 a session, which is deducted fr6m your membership

It has been great to see 3 quads and 3 doubles out on the water on Saturday mornings, and as the weather is slowly warming up, its terrific to see so many school rowers both male and female down on the river showing their skills. The river is certainly busy on Saturday mornings with both South Grafton and Grafton rowers honing their techniques before the new season begins and to the New School Rowers, we all wish you luck for the up-coming Schools Regatta on 28.9.01 and thanks to Graham Davis who has rallied up so many keen rowers again.

RULES OF THE RIVER

Always have land close to you, just in case you do go for a dip. While heading west, row past the Crown, then cross over to Susan Island for your homeward trip and if you are heading down river (East), you row over near South Grafton Club, and back over to Macauley College side for the home journey. And now that the days are getting darker quicker, we need to put the lights on the boats for more safety and abide by Water ways regulations.

THIS TIME LAST YEAR

Do you remember this time last year, we were all in awe of our New Olympian friends churning up the Clarence River, our season had started at the end of August, and the Olympics were just around the corner.

Also on the subject, our Aussie rowers have done really well at the World Rowing Championships held at Lucerne winning at least 3 gold medals.
