LEARNERS 2 sessions 8.30 am and 9.30 am SATURDAYS

It has been wonderful to see so many people turning up on Saturdays, so 2 sessions are necessary so no-one is left out or left sitting on the bank.

Remember it's a low impact sport, with great benefits for overall fitness and it's fun

The first lesson is free for an hour or so, after that it's a mere $5.00 a session, which is deducted from your membership, which is also very reasonable compared to other sports.

There is a devoted group of "merry men" and "merry women" to assist each week with the leamers under the direction of "ACE" coach Ken Maughan

It has been great to see 3 quads and 3 doubles out on the water every Saturday and, as the weather is slowly warming up, it's terrific to see so many school rowers both male and female down on the river showing their skills. The river is certainly busy on Saturday mornings with both South Grafton and Grafton rowers honing their techniques for the new season.

RESULTS OF SCHOOLS REGATTA HELD FRIDAY 28.9.01

The day turned windy for the newer rowers competing in the Clarence Schools Regatta this did not deter them, however, as they boated up for their races. There were some new schools competing and enjoying their wins - it was great to see them attend and hope they come along to more of the regatta's around the area

The points were won by: strike rates
South Grafton High School on 127 points 64%
Second was Maclean High School on 93 points 75%
Third goes to Grafton High School on 87 points 80%
Fourth went to MacCauley College with 26 points 61%
Fifth going to Grafton Cathedral School with 8 points 100%
Sixth to Evans Head High School on 1 point 62%

It was terrific to see the young rowers doing so well in races such as the girls under 14 quad scull-never raced, which was won by Grafton High School, Munro, Werninck, Weatherstone e, Marr in a credible time of 5:25.30. Well done girls.

Also the Boys under 14 scull-never raced was won by Grafton Cathedral School, Kane Ramon in a time of 6:11.

The Girls under 16-never raced won by Sandra Williams of Maclean High School, and Boys under 16 scull-never raced was won by Phil Taylor of South Grafton High.

The Girls under 16 quad was won by MaCauley College of West, Paterson, West & Stacey in a time of 4:57 and, representing Evans Head High School, Alicia Duff coming in a close fourth place in her girls under 14 scull in a time of 6:32.

The more experienced rowers also competing saw James and Saye from South Grafton High School winning their double scull race in a great time of 4:35.

O'Connell and Hellyer from Maclean High School won their race in 4.03 what a terrific effort.

Also from Maclean, Sarah Eke won her scull race in a time of 5:27.

Grafton High school saw the experienced four crew comprised of the Pritchard girls, Golding and Pascoe winning in the time of 5:12 - another great win for this crew.

Also from Grafon High School, Luke McBeath, raced home in his scull race in the time of 4:08. Well done Luke! Competing in the same race was Matthew Hellyer of Maclean in second place and Brenton Tunsted of Grafton in fifth, and Patrick Doughan racing into sixth, all doing great times, as it was a very fast race.

There were certainly some terrific times set and in the windy conditions rowers had to work for their wins. All the competitors on the day were winners with the more experienced rowers assisting with the new people.

A big THANKS to all those dedicated Coaches who got all the crews ready for the day - thanks to those who helped on the day with boats and recording times - without you the day would not have the success that it was.

RULES OF THE RIVER

Always have land close to you, just in case you do go for a dip. While heading west, row past the Crown, then cross over to Susan Island for your homeward trip and if you are heading down river (East), you row over near South Grafton Club, and back over to Macauley College side for the home journey. It is still necessary to put the lights on the boats for more safety and abide by Water ways regulations just until daylight saving starts soon  - HOORRAAYY

HAVE YOU NOTICED....

Have you noticed the flash new slings and noticeboard - thanks to Neville

Also a big thanks to those quiet achievers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep GRC running smoothly, Don, Ken, Rob, etc - without you, it would just be chaos.

DIP AWARD

Ryley Edgar has shown the crowd how ""not to" get out of a single, as he carefully aimed his single into shore after a rigorous training session with dad, he did a double flip and splash out of the boat, the crowd cheered, the jury is still out on his scores.

Well done Ryley there has been some other splash's out in the deep end, with the new young rowers going for a swim, at least the water is warming up.

Remember guys, if you go in 3 times, you are then an "official rower"

GRC SINGLETS

are available for $25.00 each, see Daph's Trade Table.

The new singlets are now available for $30 each, they are made from a light lycra with the
emblem embroidered - a very nice singlet to proudly wear - very groovy

GRC PHOTO ALBUMS AND SCRAPBOOK
Have a look at the photos of the past and present and if you have any you wish to add, please let me know, our scrapbook of newspaper items is growing all the time, Are You In There?????

RESULTS FROM MURWILLUMBAH REGATTA 14.10.01

The day was a good one with a small group of GRC competitors traveling up to contest the start of the new Regatta season. The vet ladies crew narrowly won their race tipping out the Murbah crew on the line in a great race - a great win ladies.

The mens vet pair race was an easy win to GRC - well done Geoff and Neville - watch out for that handicapper though!.

The mens Vet four saw another close race, with the GRC crew coming a close second to the Tweed Heads crew.

As the day went along, the weather got worse with winds blowing up the course making it difficult for all competitors to make their way to the finish line, but Don Noble made it look easy in his single scull race having a terrific win against the odds. Congrats to all GRC crews having a successfid day with firsts, seconds and thirds in all races they competed in.

Full results are on the web site.

BRO TRAINING

If you are interested in being in charge, great with a flag, yelling is your forte, your directional skills are outstanding, then you should be a Boat Race Official.

Please get in touch with Greg Thompson.

There is a need for more BRO's at each regatta, and if no-one comes forward, it may mean that regattas will not go ahead.

Phone Greg ASAP on 66421902 at home or 66421834 at work
we are running out of time, so please let Greg know as soon as possible

SEAT MONEY

This is a reminder to all competing rowers. The pay with nominations scheme went fairly well, as it was introduced last season, but everyone has had enough time to get used to this idea, and if you DO NOT PAY WITH YOUR NOMINATIONS FOR ANY REGATTA YOU WILL NOT BE ENTERED IN THE DRAW

Daphne Maughan and Marg Doughan will be checking closely that everyone does the right thing, so everyone can enjoy their day at the Regatta's

BOAT LOADING & UNLOADING

This is gentle reminder for everyone who is rowing at Regattas to make sure they assist with the boat loading and unloading. The more hands the less time it takes, otherwise you may get to a regatta and you may not have a boat to row...... and where else can you effectively wear spanners as a fashion item?!!!! hmmmmm

LAST CALL FOR COACHING CLINIC LEVEL 1

Are you interested in doing this level one course?, Amanda is ringing around Northern Rivers Clubs for others who may be interested, and if you are interested please let her know. So far there are 7 keen people interested and, if there are around 10, the course will he conducted here in Grafton, so get your name in Ring Amanda on 66431746 at home after hours

SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

WHICH ARE YOU ????

Some members keep a Club so strong
while others join just to belong,
some dig in, some serve with pride,
some go along just for the ride
some volunteer to do their share
while some sit back and just don't care
some do their best, some help, some make
some do nought but only take
some help the Club to grow and grow
when asked to help, they don't say "no"
some greet new members with a smile
and make their coming much more worthwhile
while some go on their merry way
neither a kind word, nor a greeting say
some pull, some drag, some don't, some do
