The Mural

Thanks to Greg Ryan, the club has a fantastic new mural on the northern wall of the entrance foyer.

The 4 metre wide painting depicts a number of GRC personalities and is a credit to Greg's artistic skills.

The artwork is a development from Greg's earlier poem "The Croc" and, like the poem, is related to a veterans training session during which a crew member has a mishap with his blade, which "Coach Ken" queries. Ken asks if the rower caught a crab, but the reply was a hasty "it's not a crab Ken, it's a croc and its got my ruddy oar!" (the croc still graces the main bar at Roches Family Hotel).

In the four at the centre of the picture are Tony Gallagher (Stroke), John Brien, Pat Gallagher and Greg Thompson (Bow) with Patrick Doughan as cox. Ken Maughan is coaching in the tinny with a hapless Greg Ryan in the drink after falling out of his scull on the left of the picture. Other nice touches include some of the vets loading the trailer (complete with Thommo's truck), Max Kearns opening one of the roller doors on the shed, and, of course, Ken's old Mazda parked under the tree at the left of the photo.

Greg is to be congratulated for his efforts and we have already had comments from visitors to the club. Well done Greg!
