WELCOME BACK
HOPE SANTA WAS GOOD TO YOU ALL, AND THOSE HUGE XMAS DINNERS DIDN'T CATCH UP TOO MUCH, AND NOW IT'S TIME TO GET BACK TO THE GRIND, OH I MEAN, THAT GREAT TRAINING FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON.
WHO TURNED UP THE HEAT?
Since xmas eve, the temperature has not been under 30 degrees in the Northern Rivers and has been up to 45 degrees more often than not, so training...
well... a BIG HA HA HA RA HA HA RA RA HA,
Except for a "chosen" few who rowed to Koolkhan only a mere 10 k's up river, (thanks Max great idea of yours), but where were you Max?????????????
The first home was Neville, who quote unquote, "I'm stuffed", next in was Patrick, "I'm buggered", Michael and Donny choked out a "I'm stuffed and tired". Ken, "I have blisters and my bum hurts" and the young girls in the double, Amy and Cassie, they were "tired" but all were very pleased that they made it up and back and before the heat took hold of the day. Well done everyone, early training for the Rowathon perhaps!!!!!!
SANTA HAS BEEN FIXING THE SCHOOL BOATS???!!!
Yes, some of our devoted Club members have taken time out in the heat to spend a lot of time fixing some school sculls, to give our younger members a great start to the season, A HUGE THANKS TO YOU GUYS FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT, THE BOATS LOOK LIKE BRAND NEW
ROWING CAMP 21 to 25 Jan 2002
A group of 40 enthusiastic rowers turned up for Andrew Pierce to give some advice on how to row "Smarter". It was interesting and informative, videoing the rowers, checking their rowing styles, watching their strengths, and advising on weaknesses. He gave everyone some new ideas how to improve and how to row "smarter". Along with Accomplished Coach's Ken, Harold, Lyn, Terry and Col everyone received attention and assistance to improve our rowing styles to suit each individual and crew. Particularly interesting was the Physio's who attended to show us how and what parts of the body to use to minimise injuries, and strengthen areas to assist in rowing "smarter" remembering to stretch before and after rowing, finding and making use of the correct muscles, and by doing what seemed to be a simple techniques, really showed us just how we aren't making use of the correct muscles
Col will elaborate further in the next issue
"BRO" TRAINING
YES, It's happened on SATURDAY 2.2.02 2PM

Congratulations to those New BROs - we will see you on the water doing your thing good and proper?!
There will be more training held at a later time so stay tuned
TWEED HEADS REGATTA HELD SUNDAY 10.2.02
A group of Graftonians traveled up to compete again on the Murwillumbah course. It was a hot day, with the usual strong Surfers Paradise and Tweed Heads crews doing really well. South Grafton had a few wins amongst their young rowers, the Vet mens crews had Grafton receiving a few second's and South Grafton also placing well throughout the day. The Mens 8, always a winner with the crowds, had Surfers Paradise first, with a very close finish between Tweed Heads and Grafton the margin was only .03 seconds with Grafton grabbing second.
WELL DONE EVERYONE
Full results are on the website

This is a reminder to all competing rowers, the "pay with nominations!' is going well

BOAT LOADING & UN-LOADING
This is gentle reminder for everyone who is rowing at Regattas to make sure they assist with the boat loading and un-loading - the more hands the less time it takes, otherwise you way get to a regatta and you may not have a boat to row! and where else can you effectively wear spanners as a fashion item??!!!!??
NOTE OF THANKS for everyone rowers, and parents. that turn up to load and unload. has been fantastic and the best in years
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
Just to clear up some questions about how old you have to be to compete in an aged event NSWRA LAWS clearly state the following: for example: UNDER 15, A competitor ceases to be Under 15 on 31st December of the year in which he/she reaches the age of 15 years. which applies to all other aged events held at a Regatta

Synchronized swimming was it? Coach Ken and Greg Ryan went for a morning "dip" - one down all down!
The water was lovely they said
Also coming in for landing, was Big Bird - going for a dip instead, he didn't mind the dip, but wasn't happy about losing his sunnies
Hollie and Dennis have also gone for a dip, Hollie was showing off her
"I'm coming
in to Ooops" landing - well it was a very hot morning and Dennis was out in the deep end, when he came to a watery
end.
The battle is on to see just who will get that prestigious award this season. Its a tuff one for the judges

COMMENCES AGAIN FEBRUARY2002 AND WELCOME BACK
Again 2002 has kicked off with new faces turning up for the "art of rowing" and to enjoy the low impact sport, with great benefits for overall fitness and it's fun
First lesson is free for an hour or so, after that is a mere $5.00 a session, which is deducted from your membership, which is also very reasonable compared to other sports
There are a devoted group of "merry men" and "merry women" to assist each week with the learners under the direction of "ACE" coach Ken Maughan
There is also a "GO ROWING" Book available for $5.00, that gives you all the benefits, techniques and more on rowing, so catch up with Ann or Don on Saturday mornings if you would like one of these, they are for Learners or skilled rowers
RULES OF THE RIVER
Always have land close to you, just in case you do go for a dip, while heading west, row past the Crown, then cross over to Susan Island for your homeward trip and if you are heading down river (East), you row over near South Grafton Club, and back over to MacCauley College side for the home journey
GET WELL
Our thoughts are with Glenda - she has had quite a time of it during the holidays, get well soon, and your place is still there in the ladies 8
Also, Kate is having an Operation on her back we wish you all the very best Kate take it easy, from all of us at GRC we need you both back on the water with us as soon as you are able
