PRESENTATION NITE, FRIDAY 24.5.02

Roches Family Hotel 7.30 pm

CHS RESULTS 21& 22 March

A large group of rowers from South Grafton High School and Grafton High School travelled to Penrith to again compete against the city rowers. South high dominated the regatta winning 11 gold medals, Maclean High also enjoyed outstanding success, winning five gold medals and finished third in the CHS championship, behind South High and Taree. GHS were successful with the Women's Eight.

Congratulations to all who competed and had a win.

NATIONALS, NAGAMBIE DAM, VICTORIA, held in March

7 very keen South High rowers travelled to the Nationals held in Victoria enjoying the high level of competition. Katie Darke, Karla Bowling, Melissa Brown, Aleisha Smidt with James Eather as Cox came second in the under 17 quad, first place was taken out by the 4 best girls in Western Australia in a composite crew which only narrowly beat our Southies in the A final. A huge effort.

The competition was so fierce Liz Lang and Sam. Donovan rowed a double in the Under 19 heats, but were unable to get through to a final.

Karla Bowling, Melissa Brown, Liz Lang and Sam Donovan won the B final in the quad which equates to eighth in the whole of Australia, so they all did extremely well.

Also LCRC were represented by Martina Smidt who rowed into a C final in her single and Sarah Eke also came a very credible 4th in her A final

Well done to everyone, really shows the terrific level of rowing in the Clarence at present

CORE STABILITY

Louise Glass conducted a session with everyone in the muscles used and their 3 major functional roles, which are, control posture (static), control movement (dynamic) and feedback to the brain. Her session was very informative, and by doing some simple and very useful exercises can improve your Core Stability and will lessen your risk of injury and enhance your performance. Louise has provided a program which is at the back of the newsletter, so have a look and if you can get a group together or just attend on your own to take full advantage of the 8 week program.

Thank you Louise and Grafton Physiotherapy and Sport Injuries Clinic

SEAT MONEY

This is a reminder to all competing rowers, the "pay with nominations!' is going well

PLEASE ENTER YOUR MONEY TOGETHER WITH YOUR NOMINATIONS FOR ANY REGATTA OR YOU WILL NOT BE ENTERED IN THE DRAW

Please Rut your entries in the locked box on the TUESDAY NITE BEFORE THE DRAW THANKYOU

BOAT LOADING & UN-LOADING

This is gentle reminder for everyone who is rowing at Regattas to make sure they assist with the boat loading and un-loading - the more hands the less time it takes, otherwise you way get to a regatta and you may not have a boat to row! and where else can you effectively wear spanners as a fashion item??!!!!??

NOTE OF THANKS for everyone rowers, and parents. that turn up to load and unload. has been fantastic and the best in years

HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Just to clear up some questions about how old you have to be to compete in an aged event NSWRA LAWS clearly state the following: for example: UNDER 15, A competitor ceases to be Under 15 on 31st December of the year in which he/she reaches the age of 15 years. which applies to all other aged events held at a Regatta

COACHING CLINIC LEVEL 1

The course went extremely well, 7 new coaches are now out there and will be honing their skills Congrat's to Bob Paterson, Peter Saye, Martin Hall, Michael Collins, Rob Bruce, Ann Coffins and Cheryl Cavanagh And A HUGE THANKYOU to Andrew Pierce who came up to conduct the course for us and Daph for the beaut tucker

WOW its fantastic, great wonderful, very detailed, terrific, what a great job, I mean the mural that is up and WOW, come and have a look it continues the story of "The Croc" which started along time ago "Once upon a time, the river rats were rowing early in the morning, when "the croc" was first sighted and the first chapter, can be seen at Roches Family Hotel, and now the second chapter can be sighted again, as "the croc" appears on another of the "rats" training runs

GregRyan, you have done a stirling job, thankyou

DIP AWARD

A double whammy this month, as Temeka and Dennis both went for a dip, actually both were out with "Coach Ken" and Dennis tells me that it wasn't his fault it was Ken's fault that he fell in ??????????????????????????

Sure Dennis whatever you reckon

Both Temeka and Dennis are well trained now for "How to get back into your boat after falling in",
Which was the lesson for the day after all

All these contenders are making the final decision a difficult one

LEARNERS

2 sessions 8.30 am SENIORS and 9.30 am JUNIORS SATURDAYS

Again 2002 has kicked off with new faces turning up for the "art of rowing" and to enjoy the low impact sport, with great benefits for overall fitness and it's fun!

First lesson is free for an hour or so, after that is a mere $5.00 a session. which is deducted from your membership, which is also very reasonable compared to other sports

There are a devoted group of "merry men" and "merry women" to assist each week with the learners under the direction of "ACE" coach Ken Maughan

There is also a "GO ROWING" book available for $5.00, that gives you all the benefits, techniques and more on rowing, so catch up with Ann or Don on Saturday mornings if you would like one of these, they are for Learners or skilled rowers

In the event that the weather is not favorable, you can learn the skills on the erg's which can assist with technique and endurance

RULES OF THE RIVER

Always have land close to you, just in case you do go for a dip, while heading west row past the Crown, then cross over to Susan Island for your homeward trip and if you are heading down river (East), you row over near South Grafton Club, and back over to McCauley College side for the home journey

THANKS

Thanks to Neville and Ken for putting the screens In the women's showers
