Masters Rowing (Veterans) - Page 1

Rowers can row in Masters (veterans) events from the age of 27, which is a fairly young age compared to some other sports. Competitors are divided into age divisions as shown below.

Age Categories
A Minimum age of 27 years
B 36 years or more
C 43 years or more
D 50 years or more
E 55 years or more
F 60 years or more
G 65 years or more
H 70 years or more

Masters age categories are shown at left. For Northern  Rivers Rowing Association Regattas, Masters and other handicaps are based on ability, with the Association handicapper maintaining records over successive years and adjusting handicaps accordingly.

In other regattas, e.g. New South Wales Rowing Association regattas, handicaps are based on the age of the competitors. In crews, the ages are averaged out. Handicaps are set by the Association based on what age category (A-E) the sculler or crew average falls into.

This photo shows some of the Grafton Rowing Club Masters after a successful regatta at Grafton in 1999. They are: standing, left to right: Peter Alford (now a traitor rowing for Lower Clarence), Earl Cruickshank, Robert Bruce, Graham Davis, and Michael Collins, and squatting: Graeme Bruce and Leree Alford. Peter and Leree Alford, Graeme and Robert Bruce, and Michael Collins were the mainstay of the clubs success in the 1999-2000 season, racing successfully at all NRRA regattas.
