The Grafton Rowing Club Boatshed has a varied history, having also been used as a warehouse and storage shed for flying boats which used to be a regular mode of passenger and freight transport to and from Grafton. The shed also housed the Volunteer Water Brigade for many years. Various alterations have been made to the building over the years, including the three gable ended extensions at the front, and the judge's and announcer's box on top of the shed added during the 1990s.
